William Yates Burney, age 88, of Lake Waccamaw, passed away at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville, NC.  William was born on June 25, 1936 in Bladen County to the late William James Burney and Eltos Gamble Burney.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister; Mary Ila Shook.

William was manager of Southern States Farm Supply for several years before opening his own store; Burney Farm Supply.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife; Mary Katherine Cobb Burney of the home, his daughter; Katherine Caroline Burney Wilson of Hallsboro, NC, his brother; James Lee Burney of Chapel Hill, NC and grandchildren; Brynnan Chase Wilson, Drayton Yates Wilson and Harper Mary Wilson.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 12:00 noon at Hillcrest Cemetery, Lake Waccamaw, NC, with Rev. Chris Eason officiating.
