Sidney “Phillip” Malpass, age 52, of Kelly, NC, passed away unexpectedly at Columbus Regional Healthcare on Thursday, June 4, 2026.  Phillip was born on June 19, 1973 to the late Hattie Pike Malpass and Billy Gale Malpass. In addition to his mother, Sidney is preceded in death by two step-daughters: Marie and Heather and two step-grandchildren: Anthony and Tyler

He is survived by his father; Billy Gale Malpass of Delco, brothers; Billy Ray Malpass, Jimmy C. Malpass and Gage Marshall all of Delco, daughter; Haylie Malpass of Maco, step-daughters; Samantha Bell and Kristin Ahearn both of Maco, 12 step-grandchildren and 5 Step-great grandchildren.

Phillip was a man who lived life on his own terms.  He was carefree, honest, and never one to sugarcoat the truth.  If you asked him for his opinion, you got it exactly as it was.  Beneath his straightforward nature was a heart of gold.

Nothing meant more to Phillip than his family.  He dearly loved his daughter, Haylie, as well as his step-children, step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, and all who referred to him as Uncle Phil or Uncle Fi-Fi, who brought him immense pride and joy.

He was a brother, sometimes a crazy one, but always a devoted one.  The bond he shared with his brothers was unbreakable, built on a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love.

He found happiness in the simple things that made life meaningful.  Phillip loved fishing, woodworking, cooking for family and friends and gathering people together.  Whether he was sharing a meal, telling stories, or making everyone laugh, he naturally became the life of the party.  His presence could fill a room, and his absence will be felt just as deeply.

Phillip also shared a special bond with his cousins, who were among his closest friends.  Their relationship was built on years of love, trust, laughter, and countless memories.  They, along with so many others, will miss him beyond words.

Though Phillip’s time with us was far too short, the impact he made will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.  His memory will live on in every fishing trip, every shared meal, every story told around a table, and every laugh among those who loved him.

A funeral service will be held at Prosper Baptist Church, Delco, NC on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 11:00 am at Prosper Baptist Church, Delco, with Pastor Eddie Watts officiating.  Burial will follow in Champion Cemetery, Delco, NC.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:45 am prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be James Little, Jeffrey Davis, Michael Murral, Brian Gurgainus, W.S. Farmer, Trey Farmer and Gage Marshall.
