Whiteville:    Seth Cromwell Smith, 83, of Whiteville, NC died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017 after an extended illness.  He was the son of the late David Smith and Emmeline Cleveland Smith.  Following his service in the Korean Conflict, he enjoyed a 20+ year career with the Southern Radio Corporation.  Seth was a long time member of Whiteville Country Club where he enjoyed countless rounds of golf and wrapped them up with hours at the Gin table.  He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and was also very active with the local youth baseball program and coached multiple teams over the years.  

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Shirley Jo Keever Smith, son Seth Cromwell Smith, Jr. (Cindi) of Raleigh, NC, granddaughter Nielsen Smith of New Bern, NC.  Also surviving are his sister Jacqueline Smith Hackney (Edward) of Peachtree City, GA , nephew David Hackney (Toni) of Birmingham, Al,  and niece Emily Hackney Karvasales (Pat) of Whitsette, NC.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 105 S Madison St, on Tuesday, Jan 2 at 11:30 am with Rev. Jane Lowe Davis officiating. A reception will follow the service in the parish hall with burial services at 2:15 at Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.
