Ruth Owens Lane

Ruth Owens Lane, age 96, of Whiteville, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, July 27, 2021. She was born in Columbus County June 17, 1925 to the late Major Owens and Nora Duncan Owens.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband G.P. Lane, a daughter; Judy Lane Gowen, a brother; Mark Owens and a sister; Linda Leader.

Ruth was a member at Western Prong Baptist Church.  She worked as a secretary for Border Belt Tobacco Research Station for over 30 years.

She is survived by her daughter; Donnie Lane Hooks Formyduval of Whiteville, six sisters; Doris Huestess of Wilmington, Betty Purser of Raleigh, Joyce Crawford of Wilmington, Lillian Babson of Wilmington, Mildred Walter of Fort Mills, SC, and Anne Rotruck of Raleigh, two grandsons; John Hooks (Karen) of Wilmington and Phillip Hooks (Kristen) of Ocean Isle Beach, two great grandchildren; Kathryn Hooks and Drake Hooks, both of Wilmington.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, July 30, 2021, at Western Prong Baptist Church at 2:00 pm with Rev. Ronnie Wilson officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm prior to the service, at the church.
