Robert Aldrich Obituary

 Lake Waccamaw : Robert "Bob" Frayer Aldrich Jr., 82, passed away Friday, October 19, surrounded by his loved ones while under Hospice care in Whiteville, North Carolina.   Mr. Aldrich was a true gentleman whose wit and wisdom delighted many people in his life. Bob was born in Albany New York in 1935 to Robert F. Aldrich and Mary McConnell Aldrich.    Bob attended Northside High School in Corning, NY where he was active in the Boy Scouts achieving the rank of Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow member, a passion he continued to support most of his life.  He went on the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on a NROTC scholarship graduating in 1957 with a degree in electrical engineering. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and remained active as an alumni supporting both the school and fraternity.   Following his college career he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy serving aboard the USS Coney (DDE 508) out of Norfolk, VA.  It was then while living in Virginia Beach that he met and married school teacher and UNC Chapel Hill graduate Marjorie Holland from Lumberton, NC, the mother of his three children Alan, Keith and Amy.

After the Navy Bob was accepted to the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned an MBA. He went on to work in manufacturing, first for RCA in New Jersey, then in 1965 moving to La Canada in southern California where he and his family lived and worked for 30 years.  Bob continued in manufacturing after a move to back to the East Coast relocating first to Hingham, MA and finally to Lake Waccamaw, NC where Marjorie passed away in 1999.

While in Lake Waccamaw, Robert began to put extra effort into one of his hobbies, publishing 2 books of limericks and regularly entering the Charlotte Observer Limerick contest.  Bob was active in the Waccamaw Presbyterian Church and served as the president of the Friends of Lake Waccamaw Rube McCrae library foundation.

His mother and father preceded Robert in death. He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Alan Kirk Aldrich (Beth), Lafayette, CA; Keith Courtney Aldrich (Janice), Singapore; Amy Elizabeth Anastasio (Ernie) Hull, MA; his grandchildren, Lauren, Ethan, Quinn, Reid and Molly; his sister Jane Agnello, and beloved partner of over 18 years, Mrs. Vernon Hall.  

Funeral Service will be Tuesday, October 23,2018 at 1:00 p.m. at  the Lake Waccamaw First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steuart Link officiating .Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center @ 206 Warrior Trail , Whiteville, N.C. 28472
