Nakina: Mark Simmons, 50 of Nakina died at his residence on Tuesday, May 26, 2020. Mark was born in Columbus County on May 11, 1970 to Larry Dale Simmons and the late Frances Simmons.
In addition to his mother, Mark was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Scott Simmons.
Mark was a beloved brother, son, brother in Christ, teacher, and friend. Everyone who knew him, loved him. He was the adult Sunday school teacher at Cornerstone Original Free Will Baptist Church where he was a faithful member. He was an 8th grade Science Teacher for over 20 years at Chadbourn Middle School and then at Evergreen Middle School. He always loved all of his "kids". If there was no one else who could get through to the "problem children," he always seemed to have a way of reaching them. He loved teaching. Mark always offered love, and encouragement, and a kind word to everyone.
He is survived by his wife; Renee Grissett Simmons of Nakina, NC, a daughter; Jillian Renee Simmons also of Nakina, NC, and his father; Larry Dale Simmons of Mollie, NC. The family asks for prayers during this difficult time, and for the days ahead.
