Marilyn Maxine Hughes Thomas, age 79, of Whiteville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Lower Cape Fear Angel House, Whiteville. Marilyn was born on October 14, 1944 in Columbus County to the late Homer Ernest Hughes, Sr. and Pauline Wells Hughes. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband; Gwyn Thomas, her brothers; Homer E. Hughes, Jr., Charles W. Hughes, and Ernest Hughes, her sister; Betty Jean Hughes Raistrick and a special friend; Thomas "Tommy" Jackson Chandler, Jr.
Marilyn worked for over 30 years as an office manager at Belks of Whiteville. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memory is her son; Bradley Wayne Thomas of Whiteville, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 11:00 am in Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.
