LLOYD POE ‘PEBO’
COLLIER JR.
WHITEVILLE -- Lloyd Poe ‘Pebo’ Collier Jr. passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 16 following a lingering illness. He was born April 24, 1938 to the late Stenza Rogers Collier and the late Lloyd Poe Collier Sr. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Charles Roger Collier.
He graduated from Whiteville High School and attended Wake Forest University before coming home to help in the family business, Collier’s jewelers, where he remained for 56 years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, was the youngest Rotarian ever when he joined the Whiteville Rotary Club, was a registered jeweler since 1964 and was a vintage registered jeweler. He was well known for his unique personal jewelry designs.
He was a lifetime member of the Greater Whiteville Chamber of Commerce.
Pebo was an active member and supporter of the community as a sponsor of beginner sports through varsity sports in Columbus County and in his support of education, he and Nancy enabled 85 students to further their education beyond high school. Along with the Kramer and Mann families, he leased and kept up parking lots in downtown Whiteville for many years. He was chosen as the Grand Marshall for the N.C. Pecan Harvest Festival.
As a vocalist, Pebo was well known for singing for weddings, at civic clubs and at church services. He hosted three “Bucket List Concerts” where he shared his great talent as well as gave others the opportunity to share theirs.
Visitation will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, March 18 at McKenzie Mortuary. A celebration of life service for Pebo will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19 at First Baptist Church with Ryan Clore officiating. A graveside service will follow at Carver’s Creek United Methodist Church  in Council conducted by Jimmie Tatum. Pallbearers will be Todd Collins, Alex Munroe, John Munroe Jr., Walter Munroe and Brian Worrell.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Sanderlin Collier; sister-in-law, Jane S. Morgan; nephews, Hob Morgan (Joy) and Alex Wishon.
During his illness, he was lovingly cared for by Nancy, Grace Ann Phillips, Catherine Radcliffe, Louise Rose and Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center staff.
