Lela Mae Soles Thompson

Lela Soles Thompson, 84, of Whiteville, NC passed away at Shoreland Health Care and Retirement Center on Saturday, November 5, 2022. She was born on January 15, 1938 in Columbus County to Yuley Soles and Sallie Nobles Soles.

Lela was a Registered Nurse and worked with Columbus Regional Hospital and Shoreland Health Care and Retirement Center. She also worked as an instructor at Southeastern Community College. She was a member at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church in Whiteville.

She is survived by her husband Sidney U. Thompson of the home, daughter; Patricia M. Thompson,  of Whiteville, NC,  son; Douglas U. Thompson of  Whiteville, NC,  granddaughter; Deanna Thompson of Durham, NC, two sisters; Nancie Blackmon of Chadbourn, NC and Connie Tyree of Clarendon, NC and sister-in-law; Jennifer Kaye Thompson of Durham, NC.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the McKenzie Mortuary Chapel, 112 Jefferson St, Whiteville, NC with Rev. Dr. Dave Heller officiating. Visitation will be at McKenzie Mortuary from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM on November 9, 2022. Burial will follow in the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.
