Obituary
John Charles Powell, age 73, of Lake Waccamaw, died Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Premier Living and Rehab. Charles was born on August 16, 1949 to the late Edwin Stuart Powell, Sr and Margaret Smith Powell.
Charles served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He was employed by Southeastern Community College as an instructor in the Electrical Engineering Program from 1983-2009 at which time he retired to enjoy reading, hunting, cooking, boating and many other things.
He is survived by his brother; Edwin Stuart Powell, Jr (Martha Kay) of Holly Springs, NC, a niece; Amanda Powell Hite, a nephew; Edwin Stuart Powell, III, and special friends/caretakers; Harry & Kathryn Foley of Lake Waccamaw.
A graveside memorial service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Greenview Cemetery, Reidsville, NC.
Memorials in his honor may be made to the Southeastern Community College Foundation in Whiteville, NC 28472.
McKenzie Mortuary, 112 Jefferson St., Whiteville, NC is serving the Powell family along with Citty Funeral Home, Reidsville, NC.
