Janet Mayes Thomas

Janet Mayes Thomas, age 78, of Whiteville, NC, passed away at Columbus Regional Healthcare on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.  Janet was born in Memphis, TN on September 15, 1944 to the late Rembert "Jimmy" Eldon Mayes and Mary Sue Gurley Mayes.

She was a Social Worker from the early 1960's until the early 2000's at which time she started working with the Department of Aging.  Some of her loves were gardening, collecting antiques, and cooking.

Left to cherish her memory are her son; Larry Thomas, Jr. of Del Rio, TN, two daughters; Lynne Thomas and M.J. Thomas both of Whiteville, a sister; Carol Miller of Whiteville, a brother; Mike Mayes of Goldsboro, NC, 3 grandchildren; Mason Thomas of New Port, TN, Caleb High of Myrtle Beach, SC and Lily High of Whiteville, 1 great grandchild; Boden High of Myrtle Beach, SC and her beloved dog; Pippa

A memorial service for Janet will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at 2:30 pm in the McKenzie Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Darryll Hester officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 - 2:15 pm prior to the service.

McKenzie Mortuary, 112 Jefferson St., Whiteville, NC is serving the Thomas family.
