Irene Hinson Fluharty

Irene Hinson Fluharty, 99, of Whiteville passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born in Columbus County on February 26, 1924 to Daniel Otto Hinson and Flossie Hinson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lee Fluharty and several brothers and sisters.

Irene was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Whiteville where she taught Sunday School and was active in the WMU program. She was a retired secretary from the Insurance business.

Irene is survived by a daughter, Sharon Hoover of Chadbourn, NC, sons; Leslie Fluharty (Melanie) of Arapahoe, NC and Michael Fluharty (Denise) of Mt. Olive, NC. Grandchildren, Lee Fluharty (Gina), Laura Fluharty, Joey Hoover (Tracy), Christy Hoover, Tommy Fluharty (Leighan), Michael Paul Fluharty, Hannah Hinson (Lee), Martha Stone (Ryan); great-grandchildren, Dillon Fluharty, Maddie Fluharty, Bradley Hoover, Cynthia Anderson (Lars), Andrew Hoover, Tripp Hinson, Michael Ryan Stone, Kaden Stone, Chase Fluharty, Kara Fluharty, great-great-grandchildren, Abbye, Elania, Dalton, Ethan; sister, Phyllis Cooper (Bill).

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 11:00 am at New Hope Baptist Church, 252 Rough and Ready Rd, Whiteville, NC. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 from 10:00 am to 10:45 am.
