Edward (Ned) Council Obituary

Edward (Ned) Council passed away Sunday, February 7, 2021. He was born June 24, 1929 to the late John Monroe and Louise Land Council in Lake Waccamaw. He graduated from Hallsboro High School and attended North Carolina State University where he played third base on the baseball team.  He was an All-American playing American Legion baseball.

He served in the US Air Force as a Lieutenant 1st Class Pilot during the Korean War. He was stationed in Skull Thorpe AFB, Norfolk, England during which time he participated in the Berlin Air Lift.

In 1952, he married Sally Senter of Albemarle, NC and they were happily married for 63 years until her death in 2015. After he retired from the military in 1956, they made their home in Lake Waccamaw.

He began working at the Council Tool Company in 1956 where he retired as Vice President after more than  40 years of service.  Ned was a dedicated member of the Lake Waccamaw Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, an elder and a Sunday School teacher as a member of the church for over 80 years.  He served on the fire and Rescue Squad as well as worked to build wheelchair ramps for those in need with Ramps and Rails where he volunteered from its inception.  He coached the first Lake Waccamaw Little League team to the county championship....he also served as a Lake Waccamaw town commissioner, and served on the board of Columbus County Regional Health Care for over 20 years where he retired as Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

He is survived in death by his daughter; Cristin Council Flynt, a son; Edward Land Council Jr, and 4 grandchildren - Sally and Dave Flynt and George and Lily Council.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Sally and his son Walter.

A small graveside service with Military Honors will be held Friday at 11:00 am, February 12, 2021, at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Lake Waccamaw with Reverend Steuart Link officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lake Waccamaw Presbyterian Church, Church St., Lake Waccamaw, NC  28450.
