Dulcie "Duck" Bunn

Dulcie G. Bunn, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 23, 2023.  She was the daughter of the late Clarence Dow Garrell and Bertha Johnson Garrell.

Ms. Bunn was born on December 13, 1931, in Tabor City, NC.  After high school, she attended Coker College and later attended Southeastern Community College to become a Registered Nurse.  She resided in Whiteville, NC for her entire adult life.

"Duck," as she was known to all, was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Whiteville, NC.  She was an avid golfer and loved her rounds with "the girls."  She enjoyed walking, working in the yard, decorating, finding a good bargain, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Suzannah H. Haar (Jay), her son, Billy (Buddy) A. Hooks, Jr. (Susan), stepdaughter, Candace Davies, stepson, Dr. David Bunn, Jr.; Grandchildren Pierce Haar (Jennifer), Logan Hooks, Emma Hooks, and Dakota Hooks; great-grandchildren, Lake Haar and Cameron Haar.  She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. David Glenn Bunn; her sisters, Sara G. Stevens, Dorothy G. Hanna, Berniece G. Dunnagan, Frances G. Cox, and her brothers, Dick Garrell, and Duke Garrell.

The family would like to thank Mary Jo, Debra, Erlene, and the many others that helped care for her.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 11:00 am at Grace Episcopal Church, Whiteville, NC.  A private graveside service for the family will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the McKenzie Mortuary Chapel.
