Burris Van Sellers, Jr., 95, died Monday, December 16th at Liberty Commons of Columbus County. He was born on July 13, 1924 in Chadbourn, the son of the late Burris V. Sellers, Sr. and Jenny Bell Mercer Sellers, husband of the late Frances Pierce Sellers and the brother of the late Emma Sellers Bordeaux, Patsy S. Sellers and Garland Sellers. Mr. Sellers was a member of White Marsh Baptist Church and worked with several companies in both Whiteville and Hallsboro. He was a founding member of Welches Creek Volunteer Fire Department and member of the Hallsboro Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include a son, Walter “Butch” Sellers (Kim) of Whiteville; three daughters, Sara S. Richardson (Bryce) of Mayodan, Lee S. Sorrell (Michael) of Angier and Ann S. Redick (John) of Durham; grandchildren Joseph Stancil (Courtney) of Leland, Matt Sorrell (Ella) of Glen Burnie, MD and David Sorrell (Kaylin) of Angier; three great grandchildren, Aidan, Emma and Aiva; a sister-in-law, Faye S. Pierce of Ocean Isle Beach; special niece Frankie Gore of Whiteville and Clara Almond (Dwight) of Georgetown, SC; a special nephew, Malcolm “Buddy” Pierce (Avonda) and special great-nieces Angie Reaves (Matt) of Ocean Isle Beach and B. Denise Ward of Whiteville; and special great-nephews Dillon Gore (Blair) of Whiteville, William (Ginger) Gray, Robert (Donna) Gray and Chris (Kelly) Gray, all of Georgetown, SC.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 21st at 12:30 pm at White Marsh Baptist Church followed by services at 2 pm. Services will be led by the Reverends Ray Yow and Timmy Blair with burial following at Pierce Cemetery in Hallsboro.
