Alton Clarence Edwards, age 91, of Riegelwood passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Columbus Regional Healthcare Systems. Alton was born on February 15,1934 in Columbus County to the late James Stacy Edwards and Ophelia Connor Edwards. Mr Alton was a member of Riegelwood Baptist Church and long time member and Chief of ADR Fire and Rescue, where he received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award. Mr Alton worked over 20 years as a Supevisor in the finishing department at Riegelwood Paper Mill and was also a driver for Kenan Transport. He served his country proudly in the United States Army. 

Left to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Janice Melvin Edwards of Riegelwood, NC; his daughters, Susan Edwards Caines of Riegelwood, NC and Sonya Edwards Meadors (Ray) of Coos Bay, Oregon; granddaughter, Meredith Abercrombie; and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral Arrangements will be Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 2pm at Riegelwood Baptist Church with the Rev Cameron Lewis, Rev Lammont Hemminger officiating with burial following at Whiteville Memorial Cemetary. 

Visitation will be prior to the service, 12:30pm until 1:45pm at Riegelwood Baptist Church. 

Memorials can be sent to ADR Fire Rescue or Riegelwood Baptist Church.
