Robert Scott Deans, 55, of Gause Landing, Ocean Isle Beach, NC died surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Grand Strand Memorial Hospital in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Scott was the son of Bobby Drake and Alma Daughtridge Deans. Born August 2, 1963 in Greenwood SC, he grew up in Saluda, SC and moved to Whiteville, NC in 1979. He graduated from Whiteville High School in 1981 and NC State in 1987. He served in the US Marine Corps Reserves for two years until he was Honorably Discharged for medical reasons. He was employed by Ocean Ridge Golf Plantation, where he was the head Golf Course Superintendent for the Leopard’s Chase course. Scott was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, and NC State fan, but his greatest love was his family. He was a member of Camp United Methodist Church in Shallotte, NC.
Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents John H. and Myrtle D. Deans and Elijah and Mary Alma Daughtridge of Rocky Mount and his mother and father-in-law, Janis P. and Bob King of Whiteville. He is survived by his parents, his loving wife of 30 years, Gina King Deans, daughter Hannah Deans Tomlin and husband Michael, sons Benjamin King Deans, Joseph Hackney Deans, Christopher Scott Deans, and his granddaughter, Brooklyn Adair Deans. In addition, he is survived by his siblings, John and Susan Deans, Beth and Kevin Bullard, Ginie and Jeff Leonard, Robin and Von King and John King. He was a cherished uncle to Drake and Timothy Deans, Alexandria King, Jake and Andrew Bullard, and Luke and John Coleman King, as well as many friends and his Wednesday Golf Group.
The memorial service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Camp United Methodist Church in Shallotte, NC.with Pastor Roberta Byram officiating. Visitation will follow immediately after the service. A private family burial will follow at a later date . In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to The American Red Cross for Hurricane Florence relief.
