Kalee Haddock Obituary

Kalee (Kay) Walker Haddock passed away peacefully on June 18, 2019 at Davis Retirement Community in Wilmington, NC.  Mrs. Haddock was born in Elkin, NC on September 28, 1923 to Lonnie Franklin Walker and Disa Hicks Walker.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Haddock was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years and legendary Wake Forest University Golf Coach Jesse Haddock, as well as her daughter Catherine Sherill Simons, brother Frank Hicks Walker and sister Dorothy Mae Standley.  She is survived by daughter Dorothy Kay Haddock Hill and husband James Earl Hill jr., grandsons James Earl Hill III, Jesse Haddock Hill, Bradley James Simons, Sean Langdon Simons, Ryan Scott Simons, granddaughter Kalee Louise Hill and nine great-grandchildren.

Kay Haddock was a devoted wife and mother who grew into a modern-day woman.  A graduate of Flora Macdonald College in Red Springs NC, Mrs. Haddock embarked on her career in the typing pool at McLean Trucking Company in Winston-Salem.  From this point forward, Kay rose the ranks to becoming the executive secretary at McLean Trucking, Hennis Freight Lines and Spector-Red Ball Inc. to Mr. M.C. Benton jr. , former Mayor of Winston-Salem, NC and trucking company executive.  After her many years of service with the trucking industry, Mrs. Haddock retired and help create the Jesse I. Haddock Golf Camp with her husband and Wake Forest Golf Coach Jesse Haddock.  Kay and Coach Haddock enjoyed many summers helping to train and entertain young golfers from all over the world at Wake Forest and their home in Bermuda Run, NC.  One of Kay’s greatest loves was the relationships she formed with Coach Haddock’s golfers that came through the Wake Forest Golf Program.  “Jesse’s boys” as these golfers were affectionately known always provided a wealth of love and support to both Kay and Coach Haddock throughout their lives.  Later in life, Kay, Jesse and their dogs (Buffy, Clorox and Gus) enjoyed retirement at their home on Grandfather Mountain, Jupiter Florida and their remaining years back home in Winston-Salem, NC.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem, NC.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Davis Community, 1011 Porters Neck Road, Wilmington, NC 28411.
