Fuquay Varina: John B. Warner , 76 of Fuquay Varina formerly of Whiteville died Tuesday, September 18,2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late JP Warner and Carrie Stanley Warner, owners of Warner’s Grill in South Whiteville. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Nell Warner.
He is survived by his 2 daughters, Barrie Elizabeth Sandlin (Chuck) of High Point, N.C. and Mary Catherine Spear (Ben) of Fuquay Varina, N.C. 3 grandchildren, , Hope Sandlin , Caleb Spear and Jacob Spear, brother, William ( Mickey ) Warner (Ethel) of Elizabethtown, N.C. and his ex-wife and friend Mary Warner.
He graduated from Whiteville High School, UNC Chapel Hill and Georgia State College. He spent his entire career in the insurance business. He began his career with Jefferson Pilot Life Insurance in Greensboro, and then moved to Fayetteville where he was an insurance instructor at Fayetteville Technical community College. He later worked and became part owner of Associated Insurance in Fayetteville. He never chose to retire. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
He had a love of Flying and got his private pilot license in 1986 spending most weekends at the airport. He moved to Fuquay Varina in 2009 to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren. Later in Life his focus shifted more to his love of history. He was an avid reader of civil war books and collected civil war art by his favorite artist, John Paul Strain. On most Saturdays he could be found at Ashley’s Art Gallery in Fuquay Varina contemplating his next print purchase with his best friend and gallery owner Rick Mullen.
Funeral Service will be Monday, September 24, 2018 at McKenzie Mortuary Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Rebecca Gillespie officiating with burial following in the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday at McKenzie Mortuary from 12:00 noon until 12:45 p.m. prior to the service.
