WHITEVILLE, Eula Horne Simmons passed away peacefully on December 19, 2018 after a long illness with her children by her side. Eula was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Horne of the Mishop Springs community. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harry and a sister, Pauline Benson. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Sam Simmons of Wilmington, Suzanne and Charles Maynard (son-in-law) of Raleigh. Her precious grandchildren, Taylor and Chase Maynard, sisters, Dorothy Fowler, Carolyn Fisher (Joe) and brother, Bill Horne (Barbara). She also will be remembered by her many nieces, nephews and cousins that she loved dearly. Eula was a graduate of Whiteville High School. She was a member at Trinity Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, taught children and was famous for her cooking. She took great pride in her desserts at homecoming and making her dressing every year at the supper at Thanksgiving. Eula was kind to everyone she met. Never was a woman so adored by her family. Sam and Suzanne would like to graciously thank her caretakers, Rebecca Floyd, Carolyn Tew, Rebekah Newton, and Ellen Hargrave for the respect, kindness and love that was shown to their mom. Also, sincere thanks to the entire staff and fellow residents at Davis Healthcare at The Village at Cambridge in Wilmington. Family and friends will be received at the home of Sam Simmons, 1301 Live Oak Parkway, Wilmington, NC 28403 on Saturday, 12/22/18 from noon until 6 p.m.. Visitation will be at Trinity Baptist Church on Sunday, 12/23/18 at 1 p.m. with service at 2:30.
