What is a pre-arranged funeral?

A pre-arranged funeral is simply planning funeral arrangements and providing for payment of your funeral in advance. This allows an individual to express personal preferences about the type of services preferred with family members. Pre-planning a funeral can alleviate both the stress of making decisions at a difficult time and concerns about the family’s ability to pay for the funeral.

What types of pre-arranged funeral contracts are available?

1. Under a standard pre-need funeral contract, funds are set aside towards the costs of future funeral services and merchandise. Although preferences about the funeral arrangements may be discussed, no goods or services are actually purchased. There is no guarantee against price increases. The pre-need contract may be funded with trust deposits held at a financial institution or with a pre-arrangement insurance policy.
   
2. Under an inflation-proof pre-need contract, funeral services and merchandise are selected in advance to establish a fixed price. The total amount is guaranteed. The pre-need contract may be funded with trust deposits held at a financial institution or with a pre-arrangement insurance policy.
   
3. If the pre-need funeral contract is funded with a trust deposit, the funeral home is required by state law to deposit the funds in an insured account in a financial institution.
   
4. For both contracts, monthly payment options are available.
